Juan Martinez Fires Up With Star Expert Witness Dr. Janeen DeMarte: Buh-bye LaViolette & Samuels

So the defense rests and we finally got to listen to an actual credible "expert" psychologist today with actual knowledge about PTSD and has worked with domestic abuse victims. Would we expect anything less of Juan Martinez? The prosecution rocked it by bringing expert witness, Dr. Janeen DeMarte, to the stand on behalf of the State. Can you say KA-BOOM!??? In a mere two hours, Martinez basically blew LaViolette's and Samuels' bogus (and biased) testimony out of the water.

Here's a quick break down of how Dr. DeMarte shot down LaViolette and Samuels:

Bogus PTSD Diagnosis Blown Out of the Water: Arias Suffers from BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder)

1. Samuels did not follow professional protocol when he administered Arias' biased PSD test. It was a no-brainer and Samuels did not follow the test protocol: you give the patient the test and allow the patient (NOT Samuels) to fill in the bubbles. Hmm, yeah, Dr. DeMarte pretty much schooled Samuels, and in so many words (in a very professional way), she called Samuels an incompetent psychologist who skewed the test based on Arias' lies. Not a big shocker there. She went through the criteria step-by-step to show that Arias doesn't have PTSD based on the scoring - there goes that 69 score that doesn't even fall within the range of PTSD.

2. Newsflash: According to Dr. DeMarte (are you listening, Samuels and LaViolette?), you can't be diagnosed with PTSD based on a "made up event." For example, Martinez asked Dr. DeMarte if Arias could suffer from PTSD based on the ninja intruder story. Uhmmm no, it has to be a "real" event not based on a lie. Wow, talk about a logical answer - way to go, Dr. DeMarte! You win major bonus points for being intelligent and credible, and actually understanding how a PSD test is actually scored. Oh, damn, there goes the Pretend Traumatic Disorder Syndrome that Dr. Doofus diagnosed her with.

3. Dr. DeMarte diagnoses Arias with borderline personality disorder and talks about her "blunted affect" and how she doesn't show feelings of love. Oh wait, she did LOVE Travis but only after she killed him. DeMarte makes this very excellent point - that she only wrote about her love for Travis in her journal after the fact. Oh another big shocker! Arias is ONE big blunted affect. You only have to look at her on the stand.

4. Another reason she didn't have PTSD is that people who are clinically diagnosed have a "foreshortened sense of future" - basically, that means that PTSD patients don't drive to another state and sex it up with a different man the day after they kill their former boyfriend. DeMarte refers to Arias' journals and how she talks about all the men she courts. Courts? That's a very nice way of putting it (but then again, DeMarte has class unlike the other two joker defense witnesses). According to DeMarte, PTSD patients can barely function on a daily basis and Arias had no  problem holding down a job or fooling around with men after Travis was killed. Buh-bye bogus PTSD diagnosis by Samuels.

5. Not to mention, a person suffering from PTSD wouldn't put themselves in a  position to "relive" the traumatic event again. It's called avoidance which wasn't happening with Arias. She didn't avoid driving by his house or attending his memorial service. Uhm, nope, not PTSD and NOT Battered Woman Syndrome either. She blew that one out of the water as well - nope, Arias was not a battered woman.

Wilmott started her cross-exam and all I heard was blah blah blah...you are young and don't know what you are talking about. She made a condescending remark about Dr. DeMarte's age and noted that she wasn't probably born when LaViolette got her Masters degree. Lame. Wilmott is out of her league with this witness. She is doing her best to nit-pick her credentials and her youth/experience. Whatever, Wilmott. Good luck with that.

DeMarte Shines Through On Stand With Credible Testimony - Woot Woot!

DeMarte shot down the defense's experts' credibility in one fell swoop. Martinez knew exactly what he was doing when he put Dr. DeMarte on the stand. She was poised, professional, calm, cool and collected (even when annoying Wilmott cross-examined her). I'm sure Arias was NOT liking DeMarte as she furiously scribbled notes at the table (probably composing hate tweets to DeMarte - you're next, lady, I'm gonna flip you the bird in court muahhhh!)

The defense is definitely out of their league and it showed today with Juan Martinez's star expert witness. Thumbs up!

Making a Mockery of the Legal System: Top 10 Reasons Why Arias' Defense is Worst Ever

I couldn't stomach watching Samuels' answer the jury's questions today, and most of them were redundant anyway. I wish they had asked questions about her stalking behavior and slashing Travis' and his girlfriend's tires! Aw, but we did find out today that Arias was taking tranquilizers for her "depression" (I called it on the meds!)

The highlight of the afternoon was Martinez slamming Samuels again on his incompetency and continued to discredit the bogus tests he administered to Arias. My summary of the past week: Samuels is going to need a therapist after Martinez gets done with him. I find it amusing that he becomes hot and bothered when Martinez questions him - you would think, as a professional shrink, he could actually keep his cool long enough to answer Martinez  - it's called the hot seat, dude.

Sociopathic Behavior Shines Through - Arias Flips The Bird During Trial

Guess Ol' Jodi didn't like what her shrink witness said on the stand today. She was caught on tape slyly flipping Samuels the bird from her seat. Oh, but that's totally NORMAL behavior--she's not a sociopath - NOT at all!

Death Threat Against Arias Made in Court
Things also got a bit outta control today in court when two female audience members, who were seated behind Arias' mom and aunt, were thrown out of court because they said, "I wish Jodi Arias was dead." Woahhhhh!!

Samuels Drinks Her Crazy Kool-Aid

After listening to Samuels this week, I am completely disgusted with the defense team and I don't understand why the judge allowed Samuels to continue his sham of a testimony - all his crap should be inadmissible and should be thrown out. Obviously, he's a paid witness but like I said, Arizona taxpayers should ask for their money back like yesterday! This trial, thanks to the defense, has made a mockery of the legal/court system. Beyond disgusting.

I like what this guy had to say about Samuels and his incompetent diagnosis - oh snap!

"Saying Jodi Arias has dissociative amnesia is like saying Casey Anthony would make a great babysitter," said Dr. Steven Pitt, referring to the Florida woman who was acquitted of murdering her daughter after claiming that the girl had been stolen by a babysitter.
"This guy, he got bamboozled by Jodi Arias," said Pitt, a forensic psychiatrist from the Phoenix area who has testified and consulted on several high profile cases across the nation. "He drank her Kool-Aid and now he is finding out that it is a toxic mix of 'BS.'" (Source: ABC News)

On that note...here are my Top 10 Reasons Why This Defense is the WORST Defense Team I've Seen in a Murder Trial:

#10 Too many sidebars and whiny objections by Defense equals big waste of time and HUGE waste of taxpayer's money. Fun fact: the State of Arizona has spent close to $1 million on this trial already.

#9 Nurmi pretends he cares about Arias and her defense. Uhmmm, I don't think so! He's already tried to weasel out of defending Arias and doesn't want to be part of her defense team (he's been denied twice by Judge Stephens). He also likes to pick his nose a lot - you would think a defense attorney would have better court room etiquette (and manners!) Disgusting!

#8 I'm trying to be nice to Wilmot because she had a death in her family this week and am sorry for her. From a defense perspective, her tantrums and foot stamping got old this week and she acted like a bratty teenager when she didn't get her way. Wahhh that's a talking objection wahhh!

#7 The matchy-match outfits of Wilmot and Arias were beyond creepy. What is this? Junior high court? I don't know whose very wrong idea it was but their color coordinated outfits don't fool anyone - especially not the jury!

#6 Did I mention that the defense has made a mockery out of Travis' good name and has slandered a murder victim who cannot defend himself? The defense protested that Travis' family and audience supporters should "not be allowed" to wear blue ribbons in honor of Travis. When I found that out, it made me want to jump on a plane, join the audience, and wear blue ribbons from head-to-toe. It disgusts me that the Defense had the gall to complain about the blue ribbons. But it's okay for Arias to profit off the murder of Travis by selling her crappy doodles on eBay?

#5 Nurmi wasted precious court time thanks to his slow-talking, snail defense. The judge needed to step in throughout the trial and tell Nurmi to get a move on with his testimony. He purposely wasted time on his redirects to drag out his long-winded "sex details". I felt like I was watching a scene from the movie, "Groundhog Day." It was the same boring, irrelevant questioning about the sex details and Arias' rigged journals (I still think she wrote those journals after the fact!)

#4 Worst strategy ever: let's rehash the same pointless crap and ask the SAME exact questions that have already been asked until the jury falls asleep! Between Nurmi and Wilmot, their circular questioning was pointless and it got old fast, especially concerning the phone sex tape and rehashing her kinky sex life over and over again. It didn't work - it only proved that Arias lied and that she was NEVER abused!

#3 Nurmi's ties are weird-looking...ok, moving on...

#2 The WORST & MOST incompetent defense "expert witness" ever on a murder trial - Dr. Richard "Dick" Samuels. Samuels made a big mistake when he didn't re-administer the PSD test AFTER he found out she lied about the ninja intruder story. PTSD? Transient Global/Disassociative Amnesia? Intrusive thoughts? Acute Stress Disorder? Low self-esteem and not assertive? All bogus "psych" diagnoses that are based on a skewed psych eval! Martinez exposed Samuels' unethical behavior when he called him out about the book: a legitimate, ethical psychologist does NOT send a gift to a criminal they are evaluating for a murder trial. Martinez proved that Samuels is biased this week and I don't understand why his testimony hasn't been thrown out by now! Not to mention, Samuels needs to seriously learn organizational skills - he looked like a bumbling fool on the stand as he shuffled through his messy paperwork - it's called an expandable folder - buy one, Samuels!! And that brown suit today was NOT a good look...talk about a fitting color for all the crap that Samuels spewed this week!

#1 The defense actually put Arias on the stand to testify - that was their biggest mistake! (I agree with Nancy Grace!) Martinez broke her down and exposed every single lie and went toe-to-toe with her fake, lying, sociopathic smug testimony. Her fake boo-hoo'ing and tears didn't sway Martinez and he shot her down every time. It was a great move for the prosecution but it was beyond stupid to put Arias on the stand. We only have to look at Martinez's cross-examinations and the 600 questions that the jurors asked Arias.

One word to sum up Arias: LIAR!

Court is recessed until Monday morning!! Until then...Justice for Travis!!!

The Fog Starts to Lift: Jurors Ask Detailed Questions to Jodi Arias

Despite on and off recesses due to technical difficulty, today made up for the past two days of Nurmi's snooze-fest redirect. Judge Sherry Stephens read excellent, detailed questions from the jury. Unfortunately, Arias had plenty of time this morning to rehearse her lies, I mean answers, with Nurmi. The defense reviewed the questions first and then Martinez was able to review the questions. Then Nurmi and Martinez met with Judge Stephens to object to the juror questions.

Jurors Channel Their Inner Martinez
The trial heated up when Stephens started asking the juror questions. I was really impressed with their questions and it shows that they have been paying close attention and are taking notes. Based on their questions, they aren't buying Arias' victim defense.

Scrambled Brain Syndrome: Arias Can't Keep Her Stories Straight
During the redirect, Arias mentions that when she reached for the gun it was in a holster but while answering the jury's question about the gun's holster her story changes...again. When answering questions about the gun this afternoon, she mentions that she remembers seeing the gun in a holster in Travis' closet but not when she went to grab for it on June 4. Can you say inconsistency with her story?

The questions were very detailed and specific and made Arias have to really think about her stories (in order to keep them straight). She clearly was rehearsed and looked directly at the jury, smiling at them and trying to win them over but I don't think the jury is buying any of her lies. She was all over the place with her answers, despite going over the questions with Nurmi.

Here are a smattering of  the juror questions. According to InSession's Beth Karas, she counted 117 juror questions asked today - more questions to be asked on Thursday.

This question was my favorite because of her nonsensical ramblings about Law of Attraction --more like Law of Fatal Attraction:

Do the laws of attraction also apply to recording phone sex conversations?

Arias rambled on and on that yes, the law of attraction applied to the recorded phone sex audio but honestly, I didn't even understand what she was talking about because it sounded like babbling to me! She contradicted herself once again. In past testimony, she mentions that Travis wasn't aware he was being recorded and then she said he did know he was being recorded (another lie). She also mentioned that she recorded other phone sex conversations - so what happened to those recordings? Not that I want to listen to her drone on and on about her love of kinky sex! The last time I checked, a phone sex recording has nothing to do with The Secret's Law of Attraction!!!

If you believe Travis' family deserved the truth, why didn't you confess?

She tried to look sad when she answered this question and said she didn't want them to know because she didn't want people to think bad of her. It's too late now!!!

Were you paid for your 48 Hour Interview and Inside Edition Interview?

She said she did not receive compensation for her interviews, but I highly doubt that. Obviously, 48 Hours and Inside Edition could confirm or deny this, but I don't believe her.

Did you ever take pictures of yourself after Travis hit you? This question shows that the jury doesn't buy her BS story about abuse. Arias answers no. Of course not, she doesn't have proof of being hit - zero, zilch.

Another good question...why did you continue to sleep with Travis after you learned of his child porn issues? According to Arias, she didn't want to "de-edify" him to his friends and family and was protecting him. De-edify was her favorite big word she used today on the stand...and it got old fast. Another inconsistency in her story - she said she went home, after she allegedly caught Travis with the child photos, and threw up a "few times." In her previous testimony, she went home and only threw up once. So many lies, so many versions to keep track of inside her scrambled, foggy brain!

The Fog Rolls In...Again

These are the BEST questions asked about her FOGGY memory:

  • Did you ever seek medical help for your mental condition?
  • Did you take medication for your memory issues?
  • Did you ever tell anyone about your condition?

Arias answers that she always felt like she had a good memory (aka selective amnesia) and she didn't think she needed professional medical attention for it. Oh, but she self-diagnosed herself on the stand with ADD because she knows all about psychiatric issues (uhmm, no!) Some of her answers were laughable. She was clearly rehearsed and sounded like a broken record with her same crazy lies. However, she was caught in many inconsistencies - it started to feel like she was unraveling and couldn't keep the details straight. I don't think the jury bought any of her answers though. They are smart and asked questions that are meant to drill holes into her lies and inconsistencies, especially her claim of self-defense.

Today's score: Jury 100, Arias 0 - in-depth, probing questions by the jurors!

The trial continues tomorrow with more juror questions!
